Charlotte Perriand At The Petit Palais – Paris

7/06/2011 - In Categories: Press

The reputation of Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999), the Parisian-born photographer, architect, furniture designer and urbanist, resides easily alongside the heavyweight 20th century designers. Notably Le Corbusier and Jean Prouvé, although throughout a 66-year career she may not have benefitted from much intense scrutiny outside her native France.

Her work, religiously catalogued and archived throughout a prolific career has now been revisited and exhibited to maximum effect in the richly curated exposition Charlotte Perriand: De la photographie au Design at the Petit Palais until September 18th, 2011.

Eileen Gray: Brick Screen

17/05/2011 - In Categories: Press

Eileen Gray, Irish designer (1878 – 1976),  was fascinated by the beauty of traditional lacquerware. She learned the centuries-old craft from a Japanese artisan and then perfected her skills over the course of many years. Between 1922 and 1925, Eileen Gray designed several of them including Brick Screen  one of her best-known creations. She experimented with various dimensions and panel finishes. More than just a room divider, this folding screen with its understated elegance commands the presence of a sculpture.

This masterpiece, reedited by the German manufacturer ClassiCon authorised by Aram Designs Ltd, is part of the permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Tribute to Junji Kawabe

29/04/2011 - In Categories: Press

Junji join us a few months ago with a fantastic and poetic work that ended to convince us to edit his designs. But what is really important today is Junji behavior facing Japan disaster. A lot of volunteers and countries have been involved in helping his country to cope with the human and ecological consequences. The Design world has been able to show its solidarity but what we wanted to share with you are those simple and emotive lines he send us a few weeks ago:

“Just your concern and kind thoughts are very encouraging and much appreciated. I really thank you. Many messages from all over the world are being heard here in Japan, and people here are given more hope and strength.

In 1995, people in my area, western Japan, experienced a horrific earthquake, and received much help and support from the people in the eastern Japan. Now that the people in the eastern Japan are suffering, it is our time to give back help andsupport. So, we are sending donations and goods, and also preparing to send in volunteers to support the people.

In the meanwhile, both domestic and international response teams are in the frontline to do what is most needed, and soon, NPOs can gather more volunteers to initiate the next phase of aid and support.

The situation on the nuclear power plant is also tense but I am confident that the teams who are risking their lives will calm the situation soon. Once again, thank you. Just the same as any other people around the world that survived disasters, people here will not give up on hope”.
